The Nurses’ Gift of Healing for the Holidays. While many families are busy in December holiday preparations, a group of registered nurses from Maine to California are getting ready for their own special gift – volunteering to deploy to the Philippines to provide medical support for those who continue to be affected by aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda.

Federal Official:Hospital Objections to RN Vote for CNA at Big Torrance Hospital are 'Without Merit'

RN victory was biggest single hospital election in years. A hearing officer for the National Labor Relations Board this week recommended the labor board uphold the September vote by registered nurses at a major Los Angeles area hospital, branding hospital objections to the democratic vote as “without merit.” In a hard fought election, the RNs at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, Ca. voted 279 to 261 to join the to join the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United in what CNA called the biggest U.S. election win for non-union hospital registered nurses in seven years.

The seniors and nurses of the Keep Manteca Safe Committee are applauding the announcement by the California Alliance for Retired Americans that the senior advocacy group will host the “Town Hall on Cuts & Closures at Kaiser-Manteca Medical Center” on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1-3 pm, at the Manteca Transit Center, Moffat Blvd. at S. Main St. “We welcome the opportunity to be heard,” said committee member Jackie Rudy, a resident of the Woodbridge by Del Webb retirement community in Manteca. “These cuts and closures are causing real harm to seniors and people throughout the area.”

Kindred Hospital, Westminster RNs Vote by 81% for CNA

Registered nurses at Kindred Hospital in Westminster voted by 81 percent Wednesday to join the California Nurses Association, the state’s largest organization of RNs. CNA will represent 150 RNs at the Orange County facility, a long term care, rehab hospital which is part of a large, Kentucky-based chain that operates transitional care, nursing homes, rehab and hospice facilities and other healthcare sites.

National Day of Strikes, Pickets, Protests by Community Health Systems RNs in Four States

Registered nurses at seven Community Health Systems hospitals in California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, will hold a national day of action with strikes, pickets, and other solidarity events today Tuesday, December 3. The protests will affect more than 1,400 RNs at the facilities.
