Nurses, Elected Officials Condemn Kaiser’s Imminent Closure of Vital Pediatrics Unit

Closure is part of pattern of HMO’s new model of care, limiting access to hospital and nursing care. Registered nurses, elected officials, including Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski, and Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle and concerned community members will hold a press conference Thursday, followed by a community forum Friday, to protest Kaiser Permanente’s decision to close the inpatient pediatrics unit in its Hayward facility on Nov. 17.

Nurses Hold Public Forum to Save Kaiser Manteca

Registered nurses will host a public forum in Manteca Sunday afternoon to call attention to an escalating reduction of vital patient services at Kaiser Manteca Medical Center, practices they warn are leading to a “slow death” of the critical community hospital. Big Triumph - 2-Year Sutter War Ends as RNs OK New Pact

Kaiser RNs' Message to Public: Be Wary of Insurers Who Limit Access to Hospital, Nursing Care

On the eve of the opening of insurance signups under the Affordable Care Act, registered nurses will rally outside three Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Northern California Monday with a message for consumers – be wary of enrolling in insurance plans that limit your access to a hospital and to safe nursing care. Kaiser, say RNs, has been making it harder for patients to be admitted for hospital care when sick or injured and sending patients home or to other settings when they should still be in the hospital. As part of that shift away from hospital care, Kaiser has been reducing RN staffing in its hospitals.
