Families and RNs Rally to Save Only Kaiser Pediatric Hospital Services for Southern Alameda County

Families, community members and nurses will hold an informational picket to protest Kaiser’s planned closure of the in-house pediatrics unit at Kaiser Hayward slated for November 17. Kaiser Hayward pediatrics unit serves over 1,800 families a year, and more than 100,000 children in the tri-city area. This closure will force families with children who need to be hospitalized to drive to Oakland, Santa Clara, or Roseville, and will affect all families with children under age 18 from Hayward, Fremont, Union City, San Lorenzo, San Leandro, and Castro Valley.

Vigil Planned Wednesday Evening Outside Kaiser Manteca to Show Community Concern for Ongoing Service

Seniors and Nurses Pledge to Fight for Hospital’s Survival After Meeting with Kaiser Executives. Local Kaiser patients and the registered nurses who care for them will hold a vigil Wednesday outside the Kaiser Manteca Medical Center to show their concern for ongoing service cuts at the facility. The vigil follows yesterday’s protest by seniors and RNs outside Kaiser’s headquarters in downtown Oakland. A delegation of seniors, who traveled from Manteca accompanied by RNs represented by the California Nurses Association, met with Kaiser’s top executives. After executives promised only to assess the situation not restore services, seniors pledged to continue to push for the services they are entitled to.

Seniors and Nurses Head for Kaiser Headquarters Monday

Calling on Kaiser to Reverse Closure of Hospital in Manteca. Closure is part of pattern of HMO’s new model of care, limiting access to hospital and nursing care. On Monday, fifty seniors will travel from Manteca to Kaiser’s headquarters in downtown Oakland to protest the corporation’s withdrawal of vital services at Kaiser Hospital in Manteca. The seniors will bring photographs of their loved ones who have been harmed by Kaiser’s policy of cutting and denying services in Manteca and rerouting patients to Modesto and beyond.

Informational Picketing at UC Hospitals Friday morning

Registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other professional employees will be picketing in front of the five University of California Medical Centers located in Irvine, Los Angeles, Sacramento San Diego, and San Francisco Friday morning, November 1 to protest UC’s threat to implement take-away proposals against thousands of long serving employees. The research and technical units represented by University Professional and Technical Employees-Communications Workers of America (UPTE-CWA) at UC voted by more than 92 percent to give the union strike authorization, after months of bargaining to beat back the employer’s proposals that include severe cuts to pay and benefits.

Nurses Protest Kaiser at Warriors Game-Members Shouldn’t Have to Jump Through Hoops to Get Care

OAKLAND-Registered nurses dressed in red scrubs, parents, and children will be protesting Kaiser Permanente’s elimination of essential patient services Wednesday evening at the Golden State Warriors opening game of the season. The nurses are demanding that Kaiser return to their fundamental mission of delivering quality patient care to the community. Kaiser is one of the major corporate sponsors of the Warriors. Kaiser has been reducing inpatient hospital services and RN staffing in its hospitals. On Nov.17, Kaiser will be closing all of their inpatient pediatric services serving southern Alameda County. The unit serves over 1,800 families a year, and more than 100,000 children in the tri-city area receive healthcare from the facility.

Forum TONIGHT-Hayward Community Steps up Fight to Keep Vital Kaiser Pediatrics Unit in Hayward Open

HAYWARD—A public forum to fight the closure of the hospital pediatric unit at Kaiser’s facility in Hayward will be held this evening, following a spirited press conference held Thursday by nurses, elected officials, parents, and their children. Speaking in strong support of keeping the unit open yesterday were Senator Ellen Corbett; Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski; Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle; John Green, a local parent and teacher; and veteran pediatrics RN Kristine Richter.

New Agreement for RNs at Reborn San Leandro Hospital

Registered nurses at San Leandro Hospital have achieved their first ever contract under the hospital’s new owner, Alameda (county) Health Services who will begin operating the hospital at the end of this month. AHS will maintain prior contract standards the RNs had under the hospital’s former owner, Sutter Health, with some improvements in retiree health and pension benefits, the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United announced today.

Nurses Hold Public Forum to Save Kaiser Manteca

Registered nurses will host a public forum in Manteca Sunday afternoon to call attention to an escalating reduction of vital patient services at Kaiser Manteca Medical Center, practices they warn are leading to a “slow death” of the critical community hospital. Kaiser has been steadily closing entire units and eliminating vital services, including maternity, pediatric, cardiology, ultrasound, radiology, and more, forcing patients to travel to Modesto or Stockton for care.
