DPH to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Closure of Child Behavioral Health Unit at Cambridge Hospital

The Department of Public Health will hold a public hearing on May 8 concerning a controversial proposal by Cambridge Health Alliance to close 40 percent of beds in its pediatric behavioral health unit and to stop providing inpatient psychiatric care for children ages three to eight at a time when there is a statewide shortage of beds for young children suffering from serious mental health conditions.

Resolutions call for Baystate Health System to Meet Healthcare Needs in Franklin County

MONTAGUE, Mass — Residents of Montague cast an overwhelming vote last night to approve a resolution placed on the warrant for the 2013 Annual Town Meeting, which calls upon Baystate Health System to ensure and maintain a broad range of health services at nearby Baystate Franklin Medical Center and to prevent the further erosion of services once available at BFMC that are now only offered in Springfield. The passage of this resolution in Montague follows a similar vote by the residents of Deerfield on April 29. The full text of the resolution can be found at the end of this release.

Chicago nurses will hold a town hall meeting Monday night to call public attention to a state legislation that would dramatically improve patient safety in Illinois hospitals by setting limits on the number of patients per nurse, along with other patient protections.
