Nurses, Community Activists to Call on City to Enact Moratorium on Dangerous Petcoke Piles Exposure

CHICAGO – Registered nurses and other community activists will take a bus tour of polluting petcoke sites Monday, May 12, and then hold a noon press conference at City Hall to demand Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the City Council stop the delays and declare an immediate moratorium on petcoke to protect city residents.

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr, supporters of the Inclusive Prosperity Act (H.R. 1579), also known as the Robin Hood Tax, will hold a rally outside U.S. Congressman Danny Davis's district office on Friday, January 17. Participants are urging Davis to help realize Dr. King's dream of economic justice by reaffirming his support for the Robin Hood Tax bill.

RN Disaster Relief Volunteers Home for the Holidays

As Next Delegation Set to Deploy to Philippines. The latest group of registered nurse volunteers, who have been at working providing medical care to survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, return tonight and Saturday. But the disaster relief program established by National Nurses United is far from over – another group is already in formation with plans to head to the Philippines in early January.

Nurses Continue to Provide Care at Veterans Administration Medical Centers Despite Payroll Snafu

Registered nurses and other care providers at ten Veterans Administration medical centers in New York, West Virginia, Illinois and Colorado were unpaid or underpaid during their last pay period ending October 25. The payroll errors occurred when the VA’s new payroll system, VATAS, went into effect in these states.
