California Nurses Association, Fresh off Suffragist Celebration, Readies Fall Campaign Lampooning State’s Corporate Monarchs
Just days after leading thousands of people in a Sacramento march celebrating women’s right to vote, and decrying those politicians who dishonor it, the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United today announces the general election campaign debuts of Queen Meg and Princess Carly, two satirical figures lampooning the Republican nominees for governor and senator.
Princess Carly will make her general election debut outside Wednesday’s Moraga debate between Sen. Boxer and Carly Fiorina. At this event, Princess Carly will embark upon her campaign-long quest: to present the real Carly Fiorina with the recent award naming her one of America’s 20 Worst CEOs. HP lost 60 percent of its value during her tenure, and she laid off 28,000 workers, for which she walked away with a $100 million in compensation.
Queen Meg, who has become an icon of this year’s California election, will travel the state on Labor Day, appearing at a series of events alongside Princess Carly. In contrast to ex-Goldman Sachs director Meg Whitman who has retreated into her “billionaire’s bubble” over the course of this election, Queen Meg and Princess Carly will meet actual Californians at these events and be available to members of the press.
Among the many similarities of these two ex-CEO candidates is the lack of concern they have shown with voting and women’s civic participation for much of their entire adult lives, until given the chance to vote for themselves. Fiorina has voted in just five of 18 elections since the year 2000; details are lacking on Whitman’s self-described “atrocious” record, which may be even worse.
Both candidates also share a distinction of believing their enormous personal wealth and dubious CEO records qualify them for the highest elected offices in the state.
The California Nurses Association will continue to lampoon Whitman and Fiorina throughout their twin bids to bring their Wall Street values to Main Street California – and critique the harm their platforms represent for California nurses, patients, and working families.
