East Bay, Vallejo Sutter Nurses to Strike Nov. 1

With little movement from Sutter corporate officials on their demands for sweeping reductions in patient care protections and nurses contract standards, registered nurses at Sutter hospitals in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties will hold a one-day strike on Thursday, November 1, the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United said today.

San Jose, Good Samaritan Hospital RNs Ready to Strike to Stop Erosion in Patient Care Standards

Registered nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital and Regional Medical Center in San Jose have authorized a strike, if necessary, to protest hospital management demands they say will erode patient care and RN contract standards that will also undermine the ability of the hospital to recruit new RNs and have adverse effects on the San Jose community.

CHILDREN’S Picket at Kaiser Hayward-SATURDAY,11a.m.-1p.m.

“Treat us, don’t trick us!” they demand! Hundreds of children, parents, and concerned community members will be picketing Saturday at 11a.m. to protest Kaiser Permanente’s plans to close the inpatient pediatrics unit in Hayward in 2014. More than 1,000 children a year are hospitalized in the unit. The event will have the first-ever children-only picket line at Kaiser, joined by friends dressed as popular Sesame Street characters who will be picketing alongside them.

Barstow RNs Hold Candlelight Vigil Protest on Opening Day of New Hospital-Saturday

Registered nurses at Barstow Community Hospital (BCH) will hold a candlelight vigil Saturday evening to highlight their concerns with management’s misplaced priorities that placed the construction of a new facility with 15,000 additional square feet before ways to recruit and retain experienced nurses, the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United announced today. While the new hospital boasts of its emergency department which will include a trauma bay, airborne infection exam room, and 15 exam rooms, nearly one-half of the ED RN staff have resigned. Nurses attribute the exodus of RNs to the substandard patient care protections, salaries, and benefits that are well below community standards of area hospitals.

Antelope Valley RNs Set Candlelight Vigil to Protest Serious Patient Care Problems at Hospital

Registered nurses at Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) in Lancaster, California will hold a candlelight vigil Wednesday evening to protest eroding patient care conditions at the hospital and the administration’s hard-line stance in talks for a new contract. Some 900 RNs at the facility are represented by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. RNs cite deteriorating care conditions, especially in safe staffing, at the hospital that they say are consistently putting patients at risk on a daily basis.
