Today, 6 p.m.- RNs Form “RN Safety Patrol” to Protect Co-workers at Dangerous Intersection

Las Palmas RNs to Escort Co-workers from Employee Parking Lot

Registered Nurses at Las Palmas Medical Center are calling on the hospital to protect its employees after several were hit by vehicles while trying to cross the street to get to work from the employee parking lot, according to the National Nurses Organizing Committee-Texas.

Last month, a nurse suffered serious injuries and is still unable to return to work and at least two more were hit since beginning of the year.

WHAT: Press Conference and RN Safety Patrol
WHEN: Today, Wednesday, April 1, 2015, 6 p.m.
WHERE: Intersection of El Paso Street and Rim Road El Paso, TX 79902

“In order to safely take care of our patients, we need to be safe, too. The employee parking area is in a dark and high traffic area with little visibility,” said RN Yadira Cabrera, who works nights in the ER and is on the NNOC Negotiating Committee. “Nurses are getting hit by cars while coming to work, and we need the hospital to work harder with us to resolve the issue before more nurses are hurt. We don’t want any more nurses getting hit at El Paso and Rim.”

RNs have made several attempts to resolve this safety issue with the hospital but management has failed to resolve it. RNs are taking their safety into their own hands by demonstrating with an “RN Safety Patrol.”

National Nurses Organizing Committee-Texas is affiliated with National Nurses United (NNU), the nation’s largest organization of registered nurses with 185,000 members across the country.
