Statewide Town Halls and Canvassing Call for Urgent Action on Healthy California Act SB 562
"Our current healthcare system is broken and our elected representatives must take urgent action to fix it by supporting SB 562 and a single payer system for our state."
The California Nurses Association, Healthy California campaign, Our Revolution and #KnockEveryDoor plan a fourth wave of coordinated canvasses this weekend as well as a series of town halls throughout the state next week to engage community members with the campaign for SB 562, legislation which would guarantee health coverage to all Californians and eliminate premiums, deductibles and other out-of-pocket health costs.
"Our current healthcare system is broken and our elected representatives must take urgent action to fix it by supporting SB 562 and a single payer system for our state," said Sandra Reding, an RN at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and California Nurses Association Boardmember. "Nurses have been organizing on this issue for a long time and we're absolutely thrilled and inspired by the enthusiasm for this campaign so far. Californians are ready for single payer and excited to join the movement."
"Many people in our community lack adequate healthcare because they are under and uninsured. Some have lost their homes and their savings from medical debt. Some have even lost their lives because they could not get the health care they needed in a timely way," said Amy Arlund, RN, Kaiser Fresno. "Californians cannot wait any longer to solve this crisis. Through the door to door outreach and town halls we're inviting everyone to share their healthcare stories, and get involved in the campaign to win guaranteed healthcare for all with SB 562."
