Nurses to Hold Informational Picket at Calais Regional Hospital to Highlight Hospital Mismanagement and Deteriorating Working Conditions
Registered nurses and medical laboratory scientists (MLSs) at Calais Regional Hospital (CRH) in Calais, Maine, will hold an informational picket on June 17, to protest hospital mismanagement and cuts to compensation that make it difficult to retain experienced staff to provide optimal patient care, announced the Maine State Nurses Association (MSNA) today.
What: Picket to Protest Hospital mismanagement and Cuts to Compensation
When: Monday, June 17, 6:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m.
Where: End of Calais Regional Hospital driveway, 24 Hospital Lane, Calais, Maine
CRH has already imposed concessions on the nonunion staff, and is now trying to force the same concessions on hospital employees represented by MSNA, which include RNs and MLSs. CRH workers have been in negotiations with the hospital since last September for a new contract.
The hospital cutbacks jeopardize the quality of patient care at CRH by making it difficult to recruit new employees or retain experienced ones. Current employees say more than two dozen positions remain unfilled across CRH.
