Nurses Aboard the #BernieBus Will Visit Colleges in Atlanta Area Today

Nurses on board the National Nurses United #BernieBus will continue their voter outreach efforts in support of Bernie Sanders in the Atlanta area today. Nurses are seeking to connect with voters leading up to the Democratic Party primary in Georgia on March 1 to explain why they support Sen. Sanders.

Joining the nurses aboard the bus will be Adolph L. Reed Jr., a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, and co-founder of Higher Ed for Bernie. The bus will visit Reed’s alma mater, Clark University as well as Spelman, Morehouse and Georgia Tech.

Also on the bus will be Irma Westmoreland, an RN in Augusta for the last 23 years. “I've been a lifelong Republican, and for the first time I'm voting for a Democrat, Bernie Sanders," said Westmoreland. “My daughter just graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BSN in Nursing and a $40,000 debt despite the fact that she had scholarships. I am voting for Sanders because he supports free public college education and expanding Medicare for everyone,” said Irma Westmoreland, who first joined the #BernieBus as it traveled around South Carolina.

National Nurses United, the largest organization of registered nurses in the U.S., endorsed Bernie Sanders in August last year citing a platform that mirrors nurses’ values including his commitment to guaranteed healthcare for all, assuring equal educational opportunity for all by eliminating public college tuition to drive down student debt, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and creating millions of good paying jobs by rebuilding the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, and broad criminal justice reform.

Yesterday the #BernieBus spent the day in Augusta conducting voter outreach at a Walmart outlet and throughout the city, and co-hosted a meet-up with Bernie supporters at the Humanitree House.
