Houlton nurses, community to hold candlelight vigil protesting planned hospital unit closure

More than 1,400 sign a petition demanding the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum unit remains open at Houlton Regional Hospital.

Following a standing room only town hall meeting earlier this month, Houlton Regional Hospital (HRH) nurses and community members will gather for a candlelight vigil tomorrow, April 23, at Houlton Riverfront Park as they continue to demand that the hospital’s administration cancel plans to close their Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) department.

Since the town hall meeting on April 9, over 1,400 people have signed a public petition demanding the birthing unit remain open. Members of the public and nurses additionally are asking for more transparency and accountability in the hospital’s decision-making processes.
