Press Release
CNA, Consumers to Unveil First ‘Yes on 45’ TV Ad to Rein In Insurance Industry Pricing Abuses
Los Angeles Press Conference, Statewide Call-In
Event Will Also Challenge Deceptive Insurance Ads
The California Nurses Association/National Nurses United will join with consumers and small business owners in a press conference Wednesday to unveil the first TV ad calling for passage of California Proposition 45 to crack down on insurance industry price gouging.
What: Press Conference with First ‘Yes on 45’ TV ad
When: Wednesday, October 1, 11 a.m.
Where: Consumer Watchdog Offices, 2701 Ocean Park Blvd., Ste 112 Santa Monica
Call-ins: Conference Call-In: 1-800-920-7487 - Passcode: 65248697#
In the first ad, real, working, direct care California RNs discuss why California patients and families need protection from outrageous pricing practices by the health insurance giants.
Prop 45 prohibits excessive rates from being charged and gives the insurance commissioner the power to veto rate hikes that are unreasonable - authority that does not exist today.
California small business owners were recently charged $250 million in rates that regulators deemed unreasonable but could not stop them because no government agency can reject excessive rates in California until Prop 45 passes.
Nonetheless health insurance companies opposing Prop. 45 with $37 million are falsely advertising that the state's nurses are against Prop 45. and that small businesses are threatened by it.
The nurses and policyholders will take issue with those false ads.
CNA, with more than 85,000 California RN members, is the largest nurses organization in the state and a major sponsor of Prop. 45.
