Chicago Strike Off- RNs, University of Chicago Reach Tentative Agreement to Settle Dispute
Following an intensive day of contract talks, University of Chicago Medical Center registered nurses and hospital administrators reached a tentative agreement late Monday night on a new collective bargaining agreement, National Nurses United announced Tuesday morning.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement that we feel will have a positive impact on patient care,” said lead negotiator Jan Rodolfo, RN, NNU’s Midwest director.
With the tentative settlement, the nurses have withdrawn plans for a one-day strike Thursday. NNU, the largest U.S. organization of nurses, represents 1,550 RNs at UCMC.
RNs and University officials will meet later today to finalize terms of the settlement, and the pact must still be ratified by UCMC nurses who will hold membership meetings on May 5 to vote on the agreement.
The tentative agreement was achieved at midnight Monday.
UCMC RNs have been working without a contract since last October. Details of the new agreement will be released later.
