STOPS AT UCLA AND CAL STATE LA CAMPUSES

National Nurses United registered nurse members, who have spent the last eight months traveling from coast to coast campaigning for Sen. Bernie Sanders on a bright red #BernieBus, will continue their swing through Southern California with stops at two major Los Angeles college campuses on Wednesday.

“Our nurses will be out all over the state on the #BernieBus this month, discussing the issues that matter most to Californians and reminding people to register to vote by the May 23 deadline,” said California Nurses Association Co-President Zenei Cortez. “For the first time in a long time, California is a pivotal primary state, and nurses are in it to win it for Bernie.” There are a total of 548 democratic primary delegates from California.

Throughout their time so far in Southern California, nurses have been busy visiting college campuses, meeting with students to discuss Bernie’s platform for free education at all public colleges and universities, and working with Bernie Sanders student groups to register voters.

“Thank you, nurses!” is a common refrain when NNU nurses appear on campus. On Tuesday, RNs and the #BernieBus received a warm welcome at Santa Monica College, signing up voters and handing out Bernie swag with celebrity actors and personalities Kendrick Sampson, Max and Charlie Carver, and Rumer Willis.

NNU members have been talking to voters since last fall, recently in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon. The #BernieBus will travel throughout California in May and early June, ahead of the June 7 California primary.

As the #BernieBus tour has traversed America, nurses have emphasized Sanders’ commitment to guaranteed healthcare for all, assuring equal educational opportunity for all by making public colleges and universities tuition free, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and creating millions of good paying jobs by rebuilding the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, real action on climate change, and broad criminal justice reform, as well as opposition to unfair trade pacts.

National Nurses United is the largest union of nurses in the country, with 186,000 members in 50 states—and was the first national union to endorse Sanders, in August 2015.
