Actress Rosario Dawson, Ben & Jerry co-founder join RNs on campaign trail to scoop ice cream, talk to voters

The registered nurses, members of National Nurses United are bringing their campaign in support of Senator Bernie Sanders to San Diego County Thursday with stops at UC San Diego campus and UCSD Medical Center.

Joining the nurses will be actress Rosario Dawson, and Ben and Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen who have both been touring the country campaigning for Senator Bernie Sanders. Cohen is scooping out complimentary cups of his ice cream, and even crafted a very limited edition flavor called Bernie's Yearning.

Twenty-two gallons of ice cream were scooped out to 1,000 students on Tuesday at UC Irvine on then again on Wednesday at UC Riverside. While waiting their turn in line received Bernie buttons, tattoos, and placards and help locating their polling places.

The nurses #BernieBus will wrap up its campaign swing in Southern California Friday before heading back up the coast over the weekend.

 “Our nurses have been all over the state on the #BernieBus this month, discussing the issues that matter most to Californians and reminding people to register to vote by the May 23 deadline,” said California Nurses Association Co-President Zenei Cortez. “For the first time in a long time, California is a pivotal primary state, and nurses are in it to win it for Bernie.”

As the #BernieBus tour has traversed America, from Maine to California and Florida to Oregon nurses have emphasized Sanders’ commitment to guaranteed healthcare for all, assuring equal educational opportunity for all by making public colleges and universities tuition free, raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and creating millions of good paying jobs by rebuilding the nation’s crumbling infrastructure, real action on climate change, and broad criminal justice reform, as well as opposition to unfair trade pacts.

National Nurses United is the largest union of nurses in the country, with 186,000 members in 50 states—and was the first national union to endorse Sanders, in August 2015.
