Our most precious and popular programs, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, are under attack—not just by the far right. President Obama, along with Democratic leaders, are proposing huge changes—from the Chained CPI (changing the way the COLA is calculated), to increases in Medicare premiums, rate reductions for Medicare and Medicaid providers, and raising the age for Medicare and Social Security. On July 2, nurses across America, including California, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, and Texas created a Human Chain against the Chained CPI and demanded that there be cuts to Social Security or Medicaid. Medicare should be improved and expanded to all! Nurses gathered to celebrate the independence these programs bring to millions of Americans.
