Community members rally against the use of fossil fuels

Dozens of people in San Luis Obispo are speaking out against the use of fossil fuels, in honor of the Global Day for Climate Action.

Close to 100 San Luis Obispo community members rallied at the city's train station on Saturday, as the climate change deal was made in Paris.

The purpose of the rally was to oppose several proposed crude oil projects in the county such as the Phillips 66 rail project.

The company wants to build a rail line that can deliver crude to its refinery in Santa Maria.

We want clean, renewable energy. And that is what our county, city, state and our world need to focus on. It’s our responsibility, we owe it to the future,” Natalie Risner, Arroyo Grande resident, said during the rally.

In an effort to the combat climate issue, San Luis Obispo has taken several measures. Earlier this year the city became the first in the county to ban Styrofoam use for food vendors.
